〜つづりにあるのに発音しない文字〜

But I can’t tell

単語の最後の文字（または発音）に同じ文字（あるいは発音）で始まる単語が続く時、１語目の最後の文字（または発音）が聞こえなくなることがあります。

ここではcan’tのtですね。

can’t tell は「キャント・テル」ではなく、「キャンテ-ゥ」のように聞こえます。

完全に発音しないのではなく、発音しようとして音はださずに一瞬のタメを作るようなイメージ。

以下例文の赤字のところが対応します。

例文

1. It’s not too small.
2. I play tennis at times.
3. How long does it take to go there?
4. Let’s get together this Sunday.
5. That’s not today but tomorrow.
6. I can’ t tell which is which.
7. I went to Tokyo Skytree for the first time yesterday.
8. He’s such an excellent teacher.

10. I’m looking for a part time job.

3. 実際に、何と言っているか英文を聞きましょう。

赤字のところにアクセントをおきます。

やきとり

It's grilled chicken.

けん玉

It's a wooden toy.

It has a ball, a string,

People try to swing the ball into one of the cups.

こたつ

It's a short table.

It has a heater under it.

And it has a blanket over the table.

People put their legs

under the table to keep warm.

さきほどの「やきとり」「けん玉」「こたつ」を題材にやってみましょう。

1. 日本語見ましょう。
2. 英文を音声と一緒に読み上げましょう。

同じ内容ですが、英文から目を話して読み上げることに挑戦です。

短い一行ずつ顔をあげて読み上げてみるのもいいです。

5th Step

1. 日本語見ましょう。
2. 英文を音声と一緒に読み上げましょう。

同じ内容ですが、英文をできるだけ見ないで読み上げることに挑戦です。

英文を最初にちら見して、顔をあげて全文に挑戦してみましょう。

6th Step

1. 日本語見ましょう。
2. 英文を音声と一緒に読み上げましょう。

5th Stepの繰り返しですが、英文を見ずに読み上げることに挑戦してみましょう。

responsibility　（ここでは）公務

imperial, noble, royal　（いずれも）皇族

decrease　creaseは折り目を意味する。紙を負っていくとcreaseを内側（in）にいれていくのでincrease （増える）、開いていくとdecrease（減る）

endangered　enは「〜にさせられる」という意味を持つ

abdication　abは「引き離す」dicは「言葉を発する」という意味合いがある。
