解説

1 Sheepは「イー」と伸ばすのに対し、Shipは「イェ」と短い。「イ」ではなく日本語の「イ」と「エ」の混ざったような音

 

2 Cab、Cap、Catいずれも最後の子音はほとんど発音されない。

 

3 Waitの最後のtはほとんど発音されていない。Weighedの原形であるWeighはWayと発音は同じ。

 

4 Holeは「オウ」と二重母音に対し、Hallは「オー」と伸ばす音。Holdの最後のdはほとんど発音されない。

 

5 Tollは「オウ」と二重母音に対し、Tallは「オー」と伸ばす音。Toldの最後のdはほとんど発音されない。

 

6 Washing hisではWashingの「ng」のgがほとんど小さくなり、またhもほぼ省略されてnとhisのiがくっつくような音になり「うぉっしぃにーず」のような音になる

 

8 Until lateでLが並ぶのでUntilのLが省略され「あんてぃれー」のような音になる。eightやateがきても「あんてぃれー」と読めなくはないが、わかりやすいように一旦Untilで切る読み方をする。

 

9 Tonightは「とぅない」(最後のtはほとんど発音されない)に対し、two nightsは「とぅーない(つ)」を「とぅ」が伸びる。the nightもtheがほとんど聞こえないのでtonightと聴き間違えやすい

 

10 Walkは大きく口を開けて「ぅおーく」に対しWorkは口を半開きにして「わーく」と「わ」と「お」の混ざったような音になる。

解説

13 Walking on the roadもいいが、横断歩道を渡っているので「道路を横切っている」という意味でCross the roadが正解となる。

 

15 Stuffedはお腹いっぱい

 

17 Closedで「閉まっている」。お店で表示するときは「Close」ではなく「Closed」が正解。

 

19 米国ではテーブルにあるものを自分でとらずに「とって回してくれる?」と頼むのが一般的。そういうときはPass me 〜という表現が使える。
