音変化シリーズ

語尾の子音と語頭の母音がつながって1つの音になる（４）

had a slight fever ちょっと熱があった

had aは、hadの語尾の子音[d]と続く単語の語頭の母音[a]がつながり、「ハド・ア」ではなく「ハダ」のように聞こえます。

解説

feel about telling a lie : tellingは「過去に起こったこと」を表す

written : 発音は「りっぅん」とttは[t]の音をだすというよりは息を飲み込むような感じ

I’m bad at ~　私は〜が苦手です。

会話練習

• B担当はできるだけ文章を観ないで顔をあげて
• できるところでジェスチャーをいれてみる。

問に対して反射的に答えがでてくるようにするトレーニング。

今回のお題はこちら。

What’s the opposite of…?

例）What’s the opposite of an angel?

-> A devil.

天使の反対は？→悪魔

みたいな感じです。

冠詞のaをつけ忘れないように。

関連）angel cake : 白いケーキ

devil cake : チョコレートケーキ

devil tongue : こんにゃく

angel hair : （パスタの）細麺

What’s the opposite of “ a clean shirt”?

-> A dirty shirt.

きれいなシャツの反対は？→　汚れたシャツ

What’s the opposite of “an old car”?

-> A new car.

古い車の反対は？→新しい車

What’s the opposite of “a small TV”?

-> A big TV.

小さいテレビの反対は？→大きいテレビ

bigはサイズ、largeだと画面をイメージする

What’s the opposite of “a noisy dog”?

-> A quiet dog.

うるさい犬の反対は？→おとなしい犬

silent dogだと全く鳴かない犬、となってしまう

What’s the opposite of “a bad day”?

-> A good day.

悪い1日の反対は？→良い1日

What’s the opposite of “a difficult test”?

-> An easy test.

難しいテストの反対は？→簡単なテスト

何回も繰り返すことで質問に対して反射的に答えられるようになってくる。

これがポイントで、反射的に答えられるようになる組み合わせを経験することで、会話の瞬発力が養われてくる。

preciousness 大切さ

prejudice preは「前もって」judiは「判断する」

confuse　fuseは「注ぐ」の意味。conは「混ぜる」。合わせて混乱する

recognize cogniは「理解する」　reは繰り返す

foremost　mostより前(fore)　もっとも〜

optimist　楽天家

Congress 世界中から一斉に送られてくる様子

desperately separatelyになれない

Michael Jacksonのスピーチは前回の復習として、Heal the Worldは前回充分時間がとれなかったので今回も取り上げていただきました。

一度経験すると、忘れていても二度目には「あ、聞いたことがある」と思い出すまでの時間が短いし、また定着しやすく感じます。

講師がいつも言っていただいている「繰り返すこと」が英語を理解するための一番のトレーニングということを実感します(^^)
