「[y]の影響で変化する音」は2月14日の第6回で扱った材料の再出です。
Sound Change
[y]の影響で変化する音(2)
[n]で終わる単語に[y]で始まる単語が続くとき，[n]と[y]が合わさって違う音に変わることがよくあります。そのため，when youは「ホェン・ユー」ではなく，「ホェニュー」のように聞こえます。
舌の先が同じ位置のlにyで始まる単語が続くときにも似た現象が起こります

解説
2 Canが強く発音
3 「どうあなたはそういうことが言えるの？」転じて「よくそんなことが言えるね」と相手を非難する時に使う表現。
sayが主役なのでHow can youはかなり速く発音するイメージ。
4 seven yearsではsevenが主役なのでこちらが強め。
5 参考）心の目 mind’s eye
10 will youは「たのむよ」という意味。pleaseだと「どうか怒らないで」というすがる気持ちが強くなる。

in ~を使う。日本人はlaterとかafterを使いがちだが、英語ではin~のほうが自然。

補足
expireはex + pireでexは「外に」を表し、pireは「spirit」すなわち「魂」を表す。
「外に」「魂」が出ていくので「（期限が）切れる」という意味に転じたもの。
inspire は内側を表す「in」があるので「内に」「魂」で「刺激する」
You are my inspiration. は「とても素敵だった」という褒め言葉で使われる。

頭出しspeaking
先程塊ごとに改行して記述された英文の後ろを隠して英文を音読するトレーニング。
英文の頭が見えている状態で構わない。
なれてきたら段々と見える部分を小さくしていく。
少しずつ文章が見なくても口からでてくるようになるので、その状態でリスニングをして、リスニング力の向上効果を確かめてみる。
「頭出しspeaking」はリスニング力アップに大きな効果を出すことを実感しました。
前回から取り入れられたこのプログラム。
講師の方々が「自分で音読できたものは聞こえるようになる」と以前から言い続けていらっしゃいましたが、それが体感できます。
「頭出しspeaking」をやったところとやらなかったところでは聞こえ方が全然違います。
やらなかったところは、音の塊が流れてくる感じですが、やったところは分解されて流れてくるので意味と繋がりやすくなっています。
